The first bookshop in Hay-on-Wye, was opened in 1961. Since this year, the town became famous with its success in book marketing, and tourism. In the center of the town, there are many bookshops today. For the tourist, there is a choice of selection between different restaurants, as also Camra listed real ale old pubs. If you decide to go to Hay-on-Wye, on an excursion as a tourist, or just to buy books, there’s no way, that you can’t notice the Blue Boar on Castle street, and the Three Tuns on Broad Street. They are really enjoyable.

In Hay-on-Wye, everything turns into a bookshop- just if it closes. For an instance, on Castle Street, the redundant cinema now is renamed and redesigned to the Hay Cinema Bookshop.

At the end of May, or the beginning of June, every single year, in Hay-on-Wye is organized a special festival.

“Books, more books, and yet more books”- if this was the motto of the festival, it wouldn’t be exaggerated at all. Nowadays, the hub’s Festival is on Diary Meadows. It represents an enormous book-spread field.

Bill Clinton, himself said for the Hay Festival, that it is 'The Woodstock of the Mind'. If you are a book-lover, and a keen reader, or just a literary fan, this is the right place for you to go. The Festival of Hay-on-Wye attracted many people in the past, and even more people today. These people are children and elders between the age of 5 and 85.

If you to settle in Hay-on-Wye, know that the town is always opened for new people. This is one of the calmest places, that you can ever be. As tourist, you are also always welcomed in the “Town of Books”. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful National Park Brecon Beacons, and ride kayak and canoeing on the Wye River.
